Canton Pennsylvania has lost the only thing that made it worthwhile to visit. Rekindle the Spirit Inc. has announced that they will no longer be organizing the Apple and Cheese Festival after 30 successful years.
“This decision was not an easy one and we have met several times over the past few months to discuss this concern and our options. Over the past three years, there have been advertisements, posts and personal pleas for more volunteers to coordinate the festival, but we have not had enough step forward to continue the festival for 2020. It is a year-round commitment and due to this, a decision needed to be made now, rather than continue to wait and hope for more people to come forward or agree to our requests after we have contacted them.” – Lucy Chamberlain, President of Rekindle the Spirit

You can see that Lucy Chamberlain advertised for 3 years to try to get local residents to volunteer for this event, but nobody would. This is quite ironic, if you follow the local Canton facebook groups you’ll constantly see people complaining about the lack of businesses in the area. The reason there is a lack of businesses in the area is that there is nothing that entices people to visit Canton. It takes a long drive up back windy country roads to get to Canton. The Apple and Cheese festival enticed people to visit Canton. The people attending the festival will spend their money at local stores and restaurants while they are in the area. It’s not rocket science…

But that wasn't enough to get anyone off their rear
However, not enough people in Canton cared enough to volunteer to keep this event going, so they lost it, and when they lost the Apple and Cheese festival they lost the remaining event in their town that brought people in from across the state. If only they’d put half as much time into volunteering as they did complaining about their town…..
